Vitols, Jazeps

Jazeps Vitols(1863-1948), Latvian composer, studied at the St. Petersburg Conservatory, then became a professor there. In 1918 he returned to Latvia and conducted the National Latvian Opera, the following year he established the first Latvian Conservatory of Music, also he was co-founder of the Latvian Composers' Society in 1923. In 1944, he moved to Lubeck, Germany and lived there until his death. He composed orchestral music, choral works, and songs.
