Vogelweide, Walther von der

Walther von der Vogelweide(c. 1170 - c. 1230), Austrian, or perhaps German, Minnesinger, a lyric poet and musician who wrote in Middle High German, his most famous song is "Under der Linden". "Vogelweide" existed or it was understood as a metaphoric surname of the singer - stage-names were usual for poets of the 12th and 13th century, whereas minnesingers in principle were known by their noble family name.
